Bragging a bit more
This is yesterdays new - quite literally - but worth mentioning. The Norwegian parliament passed a new marriage law on Wednesday. I bet there were quite a lot of happy and hungover same-sex loving people throughout the country today.
Obviously this did not happen without fights. The votes were 84 - 41 and those that voted against belonged to The Christian Democrats (obviously) and the right-wing (so-called) Progress Party. Way to honour the name of the party.
But in vain. Hereafter same-sex couples have the same right to marry as heterosexual couples. Since 1993 Norway has had a Registered Partner law, but now finally equal rights. The law also gives lesbian couples the right to state funded fertility treatment and easier adoption for homosexual couples. Yay!
That's awesome! Let's hope more countries will follow Norway's example soon.
ReplyDeleteNorway: you're doing it right!
ReplyDeleteThere's been a big boom in the gay wedding business in Canada. A lot of gay couples have very high disposable incomes, and a lot of people are making a lot of money from Americans coming over the border to get hitched. It's actually quite a compelling argument to win moderate conservatives over!
Interesting point in the comment above by cae. I'd like to see THAT point made on fox news. ;)
